Washington Final Paycheck Law
Under RCW 49.48.010(2), when an employee ceases to work — "whether by discharge or by voluntary withdrawal" — the wages due "shall be paid at the end of the established pay period." Washington L&I reads this in plain terms: the final paycheck is due on or before the next regularly scheduled payday, for quits and firings alike.
Vacation, personal holidays, and severance are voluntary benefits in Washington — payout at separation follows the employer's written policy. The risk sits in RCW 49.52.070: an employer that willfully withholds wages owes twice the amount withheld as exemplary damages, plus costs and reasonable attorney's fees.
